  • The Golden Couple - Book Review

I wouldn't really classify this as a thriller. This book was more of a suspense and really average for me, given that everything is based on a cheating incident that the wife committed. I found the unlicensed therapist extremely out of place by being obsessed with her clients and a total stalker. Avery has a 10-session method that has been highly successful in the past and has taken Matthew and Marissa as clients. The story feels a bit fake as the unprofessionalism is non-stop but hey, she has to make their relationship work. There were a few twists but besides that, very average for me. • Behind Closed Doors - Book Review

I was taken into different routes with this one. The first rout will be shock, the second was anticipation. I couldn't stop reading this book, and that should tell you how much I was engaged in the story. Although it starts a bit slow because the clues haven't being laid out, and there are no reason to suspect anything, slowly but surely I ended up picking up everything from that couple behind close doors. Both Jack and Grace are in an ongoing psychological mind-game, trying to outsmart each other while Grace survives on a daily basis. From the outside, one might see this wonderful couple to be as flawless as one can be, but as the story develops written from the present and past, I was able to understand everything. It's a twisty, fast read and would highly recommend this to anyone that feels up for this craziness. TW: animal abuse, manipulation, psychological abuse, others Rating: 5 Author: B.A. Paris Format: Paperback Genre: Psychological Thriller

  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

This book is so unique and interesting. Not your regular fiction story, I was captivated from beginning to end! I felt like I was in Christopher’s shoes and made me understand what he was going through and yet not being able to express his emotions how others do. Christopher is different than any other kid because he doesn't understand sarcasm, jokes, emotions, and lives his life in a routine. He's highly logical and has a pet rat. Doesn’t lie and is extremely good at math. I laughed, I giggled, I felt sad, frustrated, anxious, intrigued. Rating: 5 Author: Mark Haddon Format: Paperback Genre: Fiction

  • It Starts with Us - Book Review

I finally finished it! I know I shouldn't compare other books because every one is unique but this is exactly what Colleen Hoover said it would be, closure for Lily and Atlas. I felt like I knew it will end with them both, clearly, but the "how" it got there was painful at times, and so wholesome too. I loved how resilient Atlas is, how wonderful of a character he is. Atlas has the perfect personality that will literally make anyone fall in love, because I've yet to find one single flaw. Compared to IEWU, this book is written from 2 POV's, and it helped me understand the hardships that Atlas faced growing up and how he got to become homeless at a point. The beauty of it all was that both Lily and Atlas seem more mature and understand that certain battles will take time to end. Both have similar scars growing up which made them fit into a perfect puzzle. I needed this ending to be this way. Rating: 4 Author: Colleen Hoover Genre: Romance Format: Paperback

  • The Maid - Book Review

I enjoyed this book! So interesting, and I should mention how unique the writing was. The main character was so different, I wanted to get into her brain and see the world from her POV, abstract from most emotions and unable to read others. Though the plot was a bit average, I truly enjoyed the characters more than the issue at hand. Molly is a maid at Regency Grand Hotel, she honors her job, and lives every day to fulfill her role as a maid by completing her tasks and always making sure to apply the pieces of training she has learned. She is very straight forward and to some, she appears odd but when she befriends a guest who is always at the Hotel, she faces certain obstacles in understanding what had recently happened inside a hotel room. So intriguing, and suspenseful! Rating: 4 Author: Nita Prose Narrator: Lauren Ambrose Genre: Mystery Format: Audiobook

  • It Ends With Us - Book Review

I had to re-read this masterpiece because the first time I read this I was just starting my journey as an avid reader and though the memories and fondness remained in my heart, I wanted to put it into writing. Nothing compares to the first time I read this book because the shock and twisting I felt in my heart throughout the story was lived intensely the first time helped me be more aware of certain details I might've overlooked. I caught myself falling in love with Ryle all the way, I mean crashing hard on him but a more insightful Lily made me open my eyes as to why as a person outside that bubble might easily think "well, just leave him" when certainly there is love and hurt dwindled together, making it ten times harder to be feasible. I can't imagine how some women and men that have faced DV at a point felt being inside that bubble and when they are strong enough to step out, feel sad to realize that they were once blinded unknowingly, despite the many red flags. I applaud at Colleen Hoover for raising awareness and fooling us readers by making Ryle so likable and harmless, confident, yet emotionally intelligent at times, overall the perfect candidate but when placed into a balance, one must outweigh the good and the bad, and sometimes the bad is so heavy, none of the goodness will ever be able to balance it out. I love this book so so much, it is my all-time favorite book and hopefully I will read it every once in a while to keep me grounded and fill me with a spark of resilience and admiration to those who stepped out of that vicious cycle. • You'd Be Home Now - Book Review

I will cherish this book so much because it taught me a lesson that I had already heard happening in this country. It shattered me into pieces because the love displayed is between brother and sister and to see it in that POV was so heartbreaking. I feel like most stories related to drug addiction are often popular because the parents suffer or the significant other faces challenges trying to help your loved one out of that hole but it's so rare to see and hear the damage it causes to your siblings. This book tackles sensitive topics like addiction and most importantly how easily it can turn into the one thing you depend on to feel alive. I felt my inside turn upside down as the book reached the end because what I valuable memory to take with me forever having listened to this amazing audiobook. • The Couple At Table Six - Book Review

There is a waitress who secretly becomes obsessed with the couple at table six and slowly dives her way into getting a conversation out of the couple and later finds out their whereabouts. The waitress named Hannah is simply living in a fantasy and creates false scenarios in her head that lead her to a dark place. I came across this book blindly, which I have done lately but didn't feel like I would be as disappointed because the story started off so good and engaging. I was taken aback when the story started to sound far from real and my interest just plummeted. I should mention the book has so much potential because it a bit suspenseful but as much as I wanted to keep going, I was fighting a laugh because I found the story rather funny and did not give the thriller vibes I had expected. • From Lukov with Love - Book Review

Jasmine Santos hates Ivan Lukov because he is the best at figure skating and appears arrogant. Although Jasmine knows him from years since Ivan is her best friend's brother, it doesn't mean she has actually met him at a personal level where she was able to see his real personality. Jasmine and Ivan both took me on a journey full of surprises, acceptance, growth, and love. For me, it was a dread to pick up the book, and it reflects on the time that it took me to finish reading it because I tend to finish reading books in a matter of one week. Nevertheless, I wouldn't classify this book as a romance, Idk I feel like Jasmine had all the attention zoomed into her life and halfway through the book is where the author incorporated Lukov into Jasmines' even though the entire book is basically about how much they hate each other, they often avoid each other and barely exchange conversations. Jasmine is a strong, bad ass woman who doesn't take shit from anybody and sets her foot down, making her so unique from all the characters. At the same time, Jasmine is excruciating stubborn to the point that it isn't cute or funny lol It was just like 2-3 pages spent going back and forth, which drove me insane and made me dread reading. I would say this book put me in a reading slump and I am happy I finished reading it. When the story got to around 80% I finally saw the light and made me look forward to wanting more from the story. I am still going to read another book by this author because she has crispy jokes and real LOL potential that I def don't want to miss out on. Rating: 3.5 Author: Mariana Zapata Genre: Romance Format: Ebook

  • The Five Love Languages - Book Review

What an interesting book to tap into. This may not work for you if you aren't a fan of religious references but pushing that aside, it was so informative and refreshing to learn about tips on how to improve your relationship. This book focused more on long-term marriage and how to bring back the love spark that it was once when you first started dating the person. I'm not much of a religious person so when there were biblical references, I pretty much just acknowledged it and looked past it. When breaking down the concept of how love is received and reciprocated, I feel it's important to know what type of love language best suits you. As I was listening to the audiobook I was thinking of how this applies to me like wow. I enjoyed it so much I need to get the actual book so I can highlight the areas and it will serve me as a reminder to not forget how to speak in the language of my partner. Rating: 5 Author: Gary Chapman Format: Audiobook Genre: Self-help

  • Happy-Go-Lucky - Book Review

Loved it! It's a nice feeling waking up in the morning and listening to an audiobook that will lift up your mood and vibes with the right humor. The book touched on important subjects and made them sound less heavy than they are, and was entertaining from beginning to end. They're out of pocket with a truth behind it that make you say 'damn, I shouldn't be laughing at this' but hey, that's David Sedaris for you. I highly suggest anyone to listen to the audiobook because not only was it narrated by the author but I enjoyed the live audience in the background, idk, it was cool lol. 10/10 would recommend. Rating: 5 Author: David Sedaris Genre: Humor Format: Audiobook

  • A Flicker in the Dark - Book Review

Just to put it out on the table, this book is suspense-driven and the writing was smooth plus the narrator put the cherry on top making the story even more chilly. Though I should mention that there are massive red flags that can't be ignored and the main character seemed a bit foolish for not realizing that but at the same time she suffers from anxiety and takes strong pills that cause foggy memory, etc, I just don't agree with certain turns the story took. Nevertheless, I was never bored listening to this story and I think it's because of the narrator who gives a wonderful aspect to this thriller. I loved the WTF-type ending but felt halfway through the middle of the story that it was going to deviate to a different route. Rating: 3 Author: Stacy Willingham Genre: Thriller Format: Audiobook
