  • Finding Me - Book Review

WOW Viola Davis, I know I've seen her in some movies, but not only is she a great actress but an amazing story teller. I enjoyed the audiobook so much because I felt it so real in my ears, with her voice, her intonation, her passion, I felt like crying, I got watery eyes, it was all a rollercoaster of emotions. While listening to the audiobook, I understood how important it is to find one's self, I did, and to welcome new findings while letting the past go sounded tough yet Viola showed how resilient she was and the way she endured everything throughout her life. I wasn't expecting this book to have such an impact on my view in life, I felt like this was a push to never give up a dream, and pursue it no matter the obstacles. I have sooo much respect for Viola Davis. She continues to use her platform and power to help other black women in the industry that may find themselves in the same loop of microaggression and unfairness. There a lot of moments where I wish I had a pen in hand to write them down but far too many left me open-mouthed, the rats, the poverty, the grieving, the insecurities, all of them left my heart in pieces. • Nineteen Minutes - Book Review

This thought-provoking book is certainly one to remember. I truly appreciate how the author placed both sides of the stories and didn't deviate from the victim's or the shooter's side. I felt both perspectives needed to be laid out on the table for the reader to get their own conclusion. I found it quite difficult at times, I remember going to sleep and waking up thinking about this book and wanting to finish it because I needed it to end. What made me mostly furious was the fact that this book was published in 2007, and history hasn't changed. This only means that the author was influenced by other past incidents similar to the story and I just stuck on that idea, I just couldn't believe how it fit in today's circumstances. The author has left me with more questions than before, I mean every chapter that passed, I had another question and so many Why's. It's a difficult matter and this book should be read by everyone in this country to understand the perspectives of both sides. Rating: 5 Author: Jodi Picoult Genre: Fiction Format: Audiobook

  • The Guilty Husband - Book Review

Vince Taylor is a CEO from KitzTech, a very wealthy man with a beautiful wife and a great reputation around his business. But a new intern named Layla Bosch is employed at KizTech, and she lands her eyes on Vince and they both end up sleeping together. Vince was careful in not letting his wife find out about this new mistress, but when Layla is found dead, all eyes seem to be pointing at Vince. I found this book on Kindle Unlimited and was curious about the story and I was not disappointed! Every character that comes across gives me the idea that they might have something to do with the dead intern. The clues are well thought and when explained at the end I was like WOW how could I have missed that clue. As much as I tried to put it down for a break, I couldn't! This was a juicy thriller with tons of hidden clues but the end is what mostly drove me to a shocking phase because what?? I truly enjoyed it. I wanted to give this a five-star but at times I felt like Vince's wife, Nicole, kept repeating the same like how could he have done this to me, and for Vince too, how could I have done this to Nicole blah blah lol that was a bit repetitive. Overall, I LOVED it. Rating: 4 Author: Genre: Thriller Format: Ebook

  • Educated - Book Review

“My life was narrated for me by others. Their voices were forceful, emphatic, absolute. It had never occurred to me that my voice might be as strong as theirs.” Sooo good so good! It is a hooking book from beginning to end. The story is wrapped up in layers of emotional abuse hidden because Tara simply lived in the same bubble and didn't know that her own family was the cause of her lack of seeking help down the run, all due to a tormented childhood. The amount of manipulation that Tara is exposed to leaves me mouth-opened because she was brought up thinking her family knows and wants the best for her but she wasn't aware that her parents were extremist in their beliefs. When looked from the outside, I simply think oh you can just leave and never come back but it's easier said than done because Tara was deeply brainwashed to the point she didn't know she had to wash her hands after using the bathroom. What also made me even furious was how easily her dad threw the word God loosely to try and feel a sense of power when making a decision or stating a point of view. I don't even want to get into the topic of her sibiling because... ugh, looking at it from their shoes, yes they didn't know any better and were brought up as such, therefore creating like a vicious cycle of their father. It's quite fascinating how brilliant Tara is despite not getting the proper education through school and really reflects her desire in wanting to continue her studies, and she also encountered the right people like her professors that pushed her to keep going because she certainly didn't think she was capable enough to make it so far but she is a great example of it. The story really humbled me, and made me open my eyes to things that I may take for grated, and realize that others simply may not be aware of the toxic family they were brought into. • Pen Pal - Book Review

This wonderful gem I found on unlimited kindle has left me speechless. At first, I will be honest, I was thinking yup this will be a 2 or 3 star book because I felt like the romance happened way too fast and it just didn't feel real, rather forced. The spicy was so on point but I've never really heard of certain strategies to be found hot like chasing after each other lol not sure how to word it without spoiling the story. I rolled my eyes so hard because Kayla was in complete denial and oblivious to the weird things happening at home. When the story reached around 60ish% I was blown away, I mean that was a total mindfuck plot. Everything just kept getting better and better, I couldn't put it down. I went into this story thinking it will be smut which it was but did not expect it to become a paranormal one. I really was taken by surprise with the unfolding of this story. Rating: 5 Author: J.T. • Everything I Know About Love - Book Review

So funny and raw. It took me a while for me to get into the book because I was not finding any true meaning behind the book but everything began to click after every anecdote. I couldn't have related more to this story, I never truly imagined that someone else have had the same thoughts when feeling like you have reached your full potential and aren't happy. I;m so incredibly happy about how the author properly worded her journey with friendships, moving on from failed relationships because it's like she had everything I could've imagined growing up but I never saw it as an experience that others may have faced too. I went into this book thinking I would know certain tips on how to improve my relationships or how to be successful in a long-term marriage but no, it's totally different and personal. It's so funny and yet emotional, not sure how the author has such gift to be able to place both and still manage to hook me into the story. I must say, I found a few recipes that I want to try, especially the ice cream one. I have started watching the show and so far I'm loving it. This is definitely a book I will read again just to gain a sense of self-awareness and understand that some things may not go the way you have planned it as well as relationships and friendships. There is an unspoken rule that one should be set by a certain age and have everything figured out but this book taught me that those rules are literally created by yourself and rules can be broken if it means it will improve your mental health. • Dark Halls - Book Review

In Highland Elementary a ton of horrible things have happened like kids killing each other, and teachers found dead out of the blue. A new teacher named Ryan is desperate to land a job and is aware of the reputation of Highland Elementary but still doesn't believe in any of those stories. Ryan begins to see weird things happening before his eyes and starts to have an effect on his health as well as having vivid nightmares. Ryan slowly starts to uncover little by little who is behind all the killings that have happened throughout the years. The book cover was haunting me, I told myself I would stop reading after 10 pm because I didn't want to have nightmares and the strategy worked lol I was not expecting this book to be so engaging and hooking with suspense and cliffhangers. Although I felt the story was rushed, I enjoyed the creepy vibe this book brought. There are tons of graphic horrendous scenes that I wouldn't want to re-read them but nevertheless I enjoyed this read. Author: Jeff Menapace Rating: 4 Genre: Horror Format: Ebook

  • The Paris Apartment - Book Review

I would put this one at a 3.5 almost 4. The suspense was fulfilling, and intense!! Although I felt like every time it got closer to telling more of what was going on, the author just left us in a cliffhanger, chapter after chapter lol I started picking up on the next move because I just knew that when the end of the chapter was near, there would be a cliffhanger. It was very slow in the beginning, and took me some time to put the pieces together but overall, it lined up pretty good at the end. I loved the setting and how detailed the author was describing the apartment, and everything else. In short, the story is about an apartment that holds tons a few tenants that somehow is connected to one another despite being on different floors. Slowly, you become used to the names of all of them but at first it took me some time to remember every character but each one has a personality of their own. I highly recommend this one as an audiobook because the narrators do a great job with the accents, and the tone of voice using suspense, intonations and all. Lovely work. Rating: 3.5 Author: Lucy Foley Genre: Mystery Format: Audiobook

  • Little Secrets - Book Review

I'm not sure what happened to this one because I love every single Jennifer Hillier book. At first I really thought it would dive into a crime scene regarding her missing song but it doesn't, if not 15-20% of the book is about her missing song. The narrator did such an amazing job toward the end, she used all her mighty power to convince me to feel dragged into the story, feeling the pain of losing a child, I mean so well-done. The story went into a loop about the same characters and their silly mistakes that turned into a tragic BIG mistake. It took me a while to put the two characters into one with the identity issue going on with JR. Despite how average I found this story, I needed to know more, it's something about the way the author uses her words carefully to put the right emotion in the story. Rating: 3 Author: Jennifer Hillier Genre: Mystery Format: Audiobook

  • Cilka's Journey

This thought-provoking story is so compelling and took me through a roller coaster of emotions. It's very sad yet powerful because Cilka is truly so fearless. She gives her all and cares for every patient that comes her way, despite of what she might've faced and is currently facing, she is strong. This book is truly dark, it tells all the humiliation that Cilka has gone through and the nightmares turned to reality that she lived just to survive. Loved it. Rating: 5 Author: Heather Morris Genre: Historical Fiction Format: Audiobook

  • The Resurrection of Wildflowers (Wildflower #2) - Book Review

"He wasn’t Thayer, he never could be, some loves are only once in a lifetime." I went into this book series because the first book was so good and left me in the air with so many questions. There are so many things that went wrong on this one, although I feel like this story can be read as a standalone, I highly encourage everyone to read The Confidence of Wildflowers. I wanted to love it but I simply couldn't, I didn't find the purpose behind this book because by halfway I knew there was no conflict, no plot, no real meaning behind Thayer and Salem's relationship. Both male characters are painfully perfect, they are easy going and Thayer easily forgives Salem with no hassle.? I also don't understand how Salem's mom is sick in this book and requires help sitting up or standing up yet when the three of them are in the car and it says "my mom reaches over, turning off the ignition" just... I mean, it doesn't tie to the illness portrayed in the story for her to make such a move so freely and effortlessly. The fact that the story never gave a background on how Salem has money yet only worked at her mom's shop and was able to be a stay-home mom, and forgiven by Caleb too. The story felt very repetitive with tons of unnecessary quotes that I found inspiring at first, but annoying after. I noticed that in Salem and Thayer's relationship they never really argue or disagree on anything, and Thayer is unbelievably available at all times for her which is not realistic. Can a five-year-old have the word "definitely" in their vocabulary? Because I don't think so yet Salem's kid does. The amount of Diet Coke that Salem drank is so unhealthy that I felt the author could've erased the car crash and used a trip to the hospital from the build up consumption of Diet Coke lol Anyway, this wasn't it for me. • The Tattooist of Auschwitz - Book Review

I couldn't wrap my head around the way that this beautiful couple Lale and Gita found love despite the atrocity they faced, and this truly explains that love does wonderful things. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on a true story from real survivors of the Holocaust, where Lale is fortunate enough to know several languages which granted him a better job as a tattooist by marking numbers on the new prisoners with ink. Little did he know that he will be finding the love of his life during harsh circumstances given that they are both working inside a concentration camp and every day that passes by is treated as if it's their last. Although both didn't want to get their hopes up and weren't able to make plans for the future, Lale always made sure to stay hopeful while Gita seemed more realistic, both were able to have a relationship inside the concentration camp. The audiobook was beautiful because it gave me the right amount of details to be taken back and get into the heads of the prisoners which I felt frustrated, sad, anxious, and mostly angry overall. I loved how informative this story was, and I would recommend everyone to read/listen to this book because it will give you a different meaning in life.
